MetroParks Trail Guide
Mill Creek MetroParks features over 52 miles of trails that invite visitors to explore the park’s diverse landscapes and natural beauty. The trail system includes a mix of paved, aggregate, and primitive paths—offering something for every hiker, from leisurely walkers to seasoned outdoor enthusiasts. Several paved trails are ADA-accessible, making it easier for individuals of all abilities to enjoy the outdoors. Whether you’re navigating a smooth, family-friendly loop or venturing into more rugged terrain, the trails at Mill Creek connect you to peaceful forests, open meadows, sandstone formations, and scenic waterways providing an unforgettable outdoor experience in every season.

Programs
Mill Creek MetroParks offers several hiking programs throughout the year.
The East Gorge Walk and West Gorge Trail provide a striking glimpse into the region’s geological history. Listed in the Mid-America Walking Atlas, the award-winning Gorge Trail is a stunning two-mile loop that winds along Mill Creek. This trail includes a boardwalk, with the stream on one side and a towering sandstone wall on the other.

The MetroParks Bikeway, situated in Canfield and Austintown Townships, is an accessible trail stretching from Western Reserve Rd. in Canfield Township to the Mahoning/Trumbull County Line in Austintown Township. This 11-mile paved path is part of the Great Ohio Lake to River Greenway, offering diverse scenery for hikers, skaters, and cyclists. Parking is available at the MetroParks Farm, as well as at the Mahoning Ave. and Kirk Road Trailheads.
The 1.5-mile East Golf Hike & Bike Trail, located in Mill Creek Park, is an accessible route that stretches from Route 224 to Shields Rd. This asphalt trail caters to joggers, walkers, bikers, skaters, and, during the winter, cross-country skiers. Parking lots are available at both ends of the trail, and a pedestrian bridge across Mill Creek links the trail to the Golf Course amenities and additional parking. Restrooms, a drinking fountain, and an information kiosk can also be found along the trail.
The East Cohasset Trail spans 1.2 miles, offering scenic views of Lake Cohasset and the Suspension Bridge. This moderately difficult trail features gentle inclines.
The Artists’ Trail is a 0.2-mile path with easy terrain alongside Mill Creek. It earned its name due to its popularity among local artists.
The East Cohasset Hike & Bike Trail, located in Mill Creek Park, is a 1.5-mile asphalt path closed to motorized traffic. It offers joggers, walkers, and bikers a picturesque route above Lake Cohasset.
Located in Mill Creek Park, the Albert E. Davies Wetland Trail is an accessible 1/4-mile boardwalk takes visitors through the Newport Wetlands to an observation deck with views of several deep water pools.
Located in Mill Creek Park, the East Newport Hike & Bike Trail features a 1.75-mile designated hike/bike lane along a one-way road open to motorized traffic. The trail offers scenic views of Lake Newport, Newport Wetlands, and Daffodil Meadow.
Slippery Rock Trail is a 0.4 mile trail with views of Mill Creek. The trail has easy terrain with steps near Old Furnace Rd.
The East Glacier Trail is a 0.8-mile path offering wildlife views and sights of the Parapet Bridge. This moderately difficult trail includes some hilly sections.
Located in Struthers, Yellow Creek Park features four challenging hiking trails. The historic Hopewell Furnace site can be reached via trail when creek levels are low.
Located in Coitsville Township, McGuffey Wildlife Preserve spans 78 acres and features mown foot trails that pass through a variety of habitat areas.
Located in Coitsville Township, Vickers Nature Preserve offers foot trails for hiking, which are also used as bridle paths.
Located in Boardman Township, Collier Preserve features approximately 2 miles of foot trails winding through wetland and upland habitats, offering visitors a close-up experience of the area’s wildlife. Parking is available off Western Reserve Rd., but there are no restroom facilities on-site.
Located in Mill Creek Park, the Virginia J. Axtmann Nature Trail for All People is a 1/4-mile paved, barrier-free path that meanders through a forested area, right next to the Ford Nature Center.
